Product Description
5-inch series intermittent ball mill and rod mill drivers
Roll Drives, 5in Diameter Roll Series
Description:
Sepor's 5-inch series intermittent ball mill and rod mill drive is a sturdy and durable heavy-duty mill drive, particularly suitable for steel grinding tanks or large porcelain grinding tanks (5-gallon size). The drive mechanism is a 1/2 HP gear motor with variable speed, capable of rolling between 40 RPM and 230 RPM. These rolls have a diameter of 5 inches, a length of 24 inches, covered with 70 inches of hard rubber, and have a center to center distance of 10 inches. One end of the grinder frame is equipped with a working rack and a built-in volleyball grate.
Photo is a batch steel ball/rod mill, typically used with a 5-inch roller drive. The ball mill and rod mill are the same mill and can accommodate any ball or rod. They come in two types: stainless steel and carbon steel. Standard 20 pound charges can also be used in these mills.

Grinding media
Usually, steel grinding balls are used together with steel mills, ceramic balls are used together with porcelain or enamel mills, and steel, ceramic or other high-density media are used together with elastomer lined mills. The SG of the ceramic ball is 2.3, with an average weight/volume of 12.8 pounds per gallon. The SG of high-density alumina (ceramic) balls is 3.2, with an average weight/volume of 17.5 pounds per gallon. The SG of the steel ball is 7.7, with an average weight/volume of 40 pounds per gallon. Higher density grinding media usually result in faster grinding of the ball mill. The grinding amount of the ball mill can be determined through experiments, but usually ranges from 20% to 50% of the ball mill volume, or to the centerline. About 30% to 40% of the ball charge will be blank space.
Dry grinding
The material load of ball mill dry grinding usually falls within 25% to 50% of the volume range of the mill. If the mill is loaded with 50% grinding material and 50% ball material, it will not be filled to 100% because approximately 30% of the ball volume is void. In order to effectively grind various materials, some experiments will be required to obtain appropriate grinding materials. If the grinder is overloaded, it may not be possible to obtain fine particle size through grinding, and as the grinding time increases exponentially, the grinding efficiency of the grinder decreases exponentially. Therefore, overloading of the rolling mill should be avoided.
Wet grinding
The material load of wet grinding in ball mills usually falls within 30% to 50% of the volume range of the mill. The solid content of the slurry can be between 30% and 60% by weight. Some experiments are needed to obtain appropriate grinding machines for efficient grinding of various materials. If the grinder is overloaded, it may not be possible to obtain fine particle size through grinding, and as the grinding time increases exponentially, the grinding efficiency of the grinder decreases exponentially. Therefore, overloading of the rolling mill should be avoided.
